I've talked with many of you since starting this little project, but for those of you that I haven't, let me tell you a little about the past few years. I'll be brief. I married a boy from Detroit while working in installation & repair for Ma Bell. Yup, I climbed poles and went into people's home in the 70's. My mother was sooooo right when she said it wasn't a job for a lady! Anyhow, pregnant gals can't climb, and I'd already fallen and hurt myself pretty badly. We moved to SC, then NC, and finally here to Denver. Divorced in 79. Remarried in 81 to Mike. Mike works for the city, in the sweeper division. I've been with Gates Rubber since 79, mostly in Industrial Sales. I have 2 grown boys, and yes I'm a grandma. My oldest son, Paul, is on his way to Kuwait. He's an aircraft mechanic in the Air Force. My other son, is 21 and was just laid off from the airport.

Life goes by quickly. I left the area in 1975, and haven't kept in touch with anyone. I went back for the 20th reunion, but still haven't been in touch. Please tell us news of any of our classmates. Tell us the good news. Tell us of those who you know for certain have passed away. Tell us of your brothers and sisters and of your neighbors. I'm sure that this will stir many memories for all of us. I'm hoping that we can keep this alive.

If you prefer not to participate, then email me. We can take your name from the list. If you just want to see the completed "round robins" then we can do that too. I'm hoping that this finds all of you healthy, happy, and ready for some fun.

Roxanne

P.S. Gerri Kubik suggested the name "The Cardinal Caller". I think its great! I've always been a talker. Don't feel as if you need to ramble on as I have here, but please, do make a contribution and pass it along!

Ralph Doll's story

I left Michigan after the summer of 71 and joined the Navy. I saw most of Europe as a sailor. I got out of the Navy in 79. Met my wife in 81. I have two sons ages 12 and 14. The older one, Jeremy is a computer genius, who knows more than most people in that field. The younger one Joshua plays a violin and cello and is now composing some very nice pieces. Both children are very smart, and have been home schooled for the last four years. My wife graduated 7th in her class of 79 so she is a well qualified teacher.

Things aren't all rosy, I have a nice government job but the pay isn't enough for a single income family so we have all the problems that go with that. Each boy now eats enough for two. I work as an audio visual specialist in a Navy Alcohol Rehab. Clinic in Jacksonville Florida. I have my own office, edit video tapes, record group therapy, fix and up-grade computers, make web pages,...and just have fun.

We like to go back packing up in the smokey mountains in NC. Last year we came upon a black bear on the trail, it was just 15 feet away. I got some pictures but they didn't come out as good as I had hoped. The bear lunged toward us trying to scare us off, Vicki started up the hill and Josh went down, I just stayed there taking pictures (I didn't think I could out run him). After he noticed I wasn't moving he stopped about 7 feet from me and veered off to the right.

I don't have any recipes right now but I'd like to add a nice southern one soon.

I'm not much of a writer, so I need to send this off before it gathers too much dust.

Hasenmyer's Trek

hmmm...25 years in a few paragraphs eh?

As with everybody else, jumped from MHS in '71. Landed at Lake State in the UP initially. With a couple of brief flybys of Martinez, CA, and Boulder, CO, I made it back downriver married to an England-born Air Force brat, working in the auto industry, and making babies. We had two children, a boy:Karlon who died in 75, and a girl:Katrina {21} who has created a boy:Alan and a girl:Elizabeth of her own design. That entire chapter closed before the eighties dawned.

Connected with my second and current wife, Debbie in '82. We criss-crossed the state from downriver to Ludington to Interlochen. Threw in some more school. Shook, not stirred, a little. And landed working for the State of Michigan by 1986. That jerked me back to the Detroit area again - should sue for whiplash eh? Been there since and now am the Senior Systems Analyst for MAJIC, Michigan Applicant and Job Information Connection. Debbie and I have three children. Two girls:Chelsea {11} the gifted and talented one and Salina {9} the athletic one, and a boy:Glenn Jr {7} the video wiz.

The oldest girl continued a cycle by graduating from MHS. On that cyclical note, I'll end this here and push it on.

Hi Ron - Leave it to the girls to want to do recipes. The best thing I make is reservations. I see this pattern that I will continue of being married a few times. Married my secretary in 75. She was older, I was expecting more experienced - she was just older. I graduated from UofM and changed companies in 1977 leaving Uniroyal for Ford Motor. Marriage lasted until 1980 when I wanted kids - you know someone my own age to play with (haha). I stayed single until 1988 when I married Krystal. She too worked at Ford. We partied and traveled until 1991 when Ashley was born. Then this daddy thing hit and we haven't been alone since. Derek was born in 1994. I am teaching him all I know so the rest of the class' grandkids had better watch out.

Classmates I see include Fred Lapko (bald as a billiard ball). Fred is a Systems Analyst working for a contracting firm in my old department at Ford. Ran into Tom Grabowski at the race track last week. He's been living with the same girl (out of wedlock) for 12 years. She's a great girl. Talk to John Nychypor occasionally - his "Little Johnny" is bigger than all of us. Mom and dad still live in Melvindale as does brother Keith (class of '70). Sister Cheryl (class of 77?) lives in Princeton Estates.

Packing today to go to U.K. I am managing a project and all the people are over there. Great job eh? IBM will be doing most of it but I suspect I'll be there every six weeks up until Christmas. I'll have to coordinate with Michigans football schedule. I attended every game but one last year (home and away) including a great trip to the Rose Bowl (This was my 10th Rose bowl, I'm 3-7). Unlike Glenn and Ralph, I'd write all day given the chance. Hope everyone is well and look forward to the next go-around.

You're up Ron.

Hope I'm doing this right. I'm new to this computer stuff. If it wasn't for Roxanne, I'd still be trying to turn it on.

Anyway, as most of you may know I stayed in Melvindale in the years following graduation and became a Melvindale cop in 1975. I married Cheryl Kraft (73) in 1977 and moved to Phoenix in 1980.

Sure was hot there and we moved back later that year.

I got a job with the newly formed Romulus Police Dept. amd have been there ever since.

We got divorced in 1986 but not till we had a beautiful little girl, Meghan. She's the apple of my eye and the best thing in my life. She lives with her mother about six blocks from my house.

I got remarried to another cop (female, in case you were wondering) and we now live in Allen Park, right down the street from Fred Lapko. Me, my wife, our four boxers and two cats. The two horses we keep in Romulus.

I've led a pretty sheltered life compared to what I hear from others in our class. Nothing as exciting as traveling the world or working for a major corp.

But you guys don't get to drive fast and get shot at , now do you ? Well, those of you still in the Detroit area do.

I see Brad Kropik, Norm Wellman, Dave Manees and Guy Morabito pretty often. They all work on the Melvindale Police Dept., along with Dave Bowerman (imagine that)

Well, that's about all the news that's fit to print from here. I'll pass the letter along ( I HOPE ).

Hi Gerri,

Haven't seen you since '71!
Here's the scoop:

Married Sandra Berlanga in '72. Still married to her, believe it or not! I gave her some of my bad habits & she gave some of her good ones, so we finally met in the middle. Have 3 children: Tim, 23, MHS of '92; Lisa, 20, MHS of '95; Christopher, 14, Strong, 8th grade. All good kids.

Lived in Melvindale, Dearborn Heights, Melvindale, & currently in Allen Park (Melvindale school district), off Outer Drive & Southfield. Work for a design & build company, Progressive Tool & Industries, who took over the drafting house (Kirk Eng.) I went to after Chrysler laid me off in '79. Middle management. Sandra has worked for Ameritech since '80.

Lisa & her boyfriend, Geoff D'Herin (MHS of '93) had a baby boy 4 months ago, and we are proud grandparents! Finally started to feel old after I hit 40!

I try to keep up with jogging around Melvindale, but have been working too many hours this year.

I miss Phil Desparois at all the Chili Cook-offs we used to attend. Haven't been to one since he died.

I'm at work, so this is all I can sacrifice time for.

NEXT.

Hi Dan! I must admit I had to get out our yearbook to correctly match the names with faces. It's been so long since I've seen anybody from our class!

I've lived in various parts of Michigan over the years, but for the past 11 years, I've been living in the Grand Rapids area. I only get back to Oakland County every so often to visit my husband's brother.

I do see graduates from the Class of '70 - namely Roxanne Montgomery, Laura Atwood, Nancy Dentamaro and Marie Carlos - of course those are their maiden names. We get together twice a year "up north" at a cottage Marie owns. It's great having long-lasting friendships.

I currently work for a new bank . I helped start up the Trust Department for the bank 6 years ago -- and haven't looked back. We've grown from zero accounts, zero assets and two people to over 200 accounts, over $100 million in assets under management, and four people. With all the mergers of the "mega" banks, our bank is nicely positioned to get business from people who are fed up with never knowing with whom they are dealing.

Allan is my second husband. He is originally from the U.P. near Escanaba. We've been married since 1985. No kids...just a kitty-cat that we adore - and treat like a kid! (It's sick!)

Just returned from a week in Charlotte NC. I went attend a conference, and stayed over the Memorial Weekend. Al flew in Friday, and on Sunday we went to the Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR Winston Cup race. It was a lot of fun - and quite an experience. We have been to MIS (Al has tickets annually to the June race), but Charlotte was awesome. There's no doubt you are in "racing country."

That's about it. It's great that Roxanne organized this. As I mentioned to her, I probably would not have even considered attending the 30 year reunion, but now that I've been in touch with former classmates - it'll truly be more like seeing old friends!

Enjoy!

I then married Dianna Mrazik (MHS'75) and we have been married for 15 years. We have 2 boys James (9) and Michael (5) and live in Lincoln Park. Well hope this gets forwarded correctly.

Hi Gary,

Looks like it my turn. Hmmmm, let's see, right out of school I married Dennis Coffman, MHS '70, had a daughter, Amber (now 24) 2 years later, left that mess after being with him 5 years. Met and married Terry Koceimba, (pronounced Ka-chim-ba, it's Polish, not African :o) from Lincoln Park a couple years later, shortly after the wedding Terry joined the Air Force and although we never left the states we've lived many places. While stationed in Arizona we had daughter Lena, who is now 15 and will be entering high school in the fall.

In 1988 my husband was offered a job in Boise, Idaho. We drove up here and fell in love with the place, left the service and now call Boise home. And in spite of what Ron thinks, I'm not picking potatoes!!! :o) It's a great place to raise kids and I love the climate, no humidity!

For the most part I have been a stay at home mom. Now that the oldest is married and the youngest is about to enter high school, I am planning on returning to school in the near future. I love gardening, sewing, and building things. My favorite store is the home center and I'll take a power tool for Christmas any day!

I vividly remember the days from MHS. Pep rallies, football games, crushes, sneaking out of the school parking lot, hoping Mr Abdon wouldn't catch ya trying to skip school. Haven't been able to attend either of the past two reunions, but have every intention of being at the next! I can't wait! When I first contacted Roxanne and Ron, I never dreamed this would get SO big! And thanks to Glenn for helping with the site! It looks great!!

Well, that's it for me, your turn Gary!
